When the alarm rings, it’s on me to get up.
When work piles up, it’s on me to work through it.
When relationships are strained, it’s on me to fix them.
When goals are undefined, it’s on me to understand.
When errors happen, it’s on me to accept responsibility.
When kids get out of control, it’s on me to hold them accountable.
When relationships falter, it’s on me to open my heart.
When healthy habits fade, it’s on me to run, jump, and lift.
When life is a maze, it’s on me to choose a path.
When prayers seem unanswered, it’s on me to discern a direction.
When all quakes, it’s on me to breathe deeply.
When someone needs help, it’s on me to extend a hand.
When quietness falls, it’s on me to watch, read, or listen.
When night comes, it’s on me to dream deeply.
When it’s all on me, how do I hold it all together?
It’s on me.

Note: Taking a different approach with this post. Often, we feel this way. We feel like it is on us to make changes or make things happen. Although there is a necessary element of personal responsibility, it does take all working together to reach a better way.
How do you balance the wear of a day, week, or month? Do you take it on alone or with the help of others?
Jon, some say we are living in an age of entitlement. I like this reminder of personal accountability and responsibility.
I agree with Skip, entitlement is the root “people” cause to a lot of the issues we deal with today.
Thanks, Burke and Skip, for your comments. We definitely need to be responsible and be held accountable for our actions as well as taking necessary actions in our lives. At times, we need a hand, and it can come from our family, friends, and community. It does start with us, though, to take it on.
Appreciate your voice in the conversation! Jon
You raise a great point about balance Jon in a wonderfully creative way. We’re never truly alone, we just falsely believe we are sometimes and whilst we must take responsibility for how we behave, the actions we take and the direction our life goes in there are always others who can help us and with the right faith be that in ourselves, and in our spiritual connection we can conquer the world!
I ‘m working on that one!!
Well-said, Kath. I believe we all are working on this! Thank you. Jon
Love this message Jon. From the big picture perspective I do believe we are all in this journey through life together, and I love helping people discover their strengths and vision for a better life. Personally, for better or worse, I am independent to a fault and find it very difficult to ask for help … so if anything I take the ‘its on me’ to the extreme.
It is easy to do, Marquita. We, at times, try to shoulder it all. We need to develop the relationships the spread the responsibility while raising everyone’s happiness. Appreciate your insights. Jon
